A petition has been filed at the Supreme Court challenging the decision of federal parliament members to hire personal secretaries.

The petition, filed by advocates Premraj Silwal and Maniram Upadhyay, claims that the decision is not only against the law but also goes against the spirit of the constitution.

Background

The decision to allow MPs to hire personal secretaries was made on Ashar 4, 2083, and was published in the Nepal Gazette. The decision was made under Section 25 of the ‘Federal Parliament Members’ Remuneration and Facilities Act, 2073′, which was amended to provide the facility of personal secretaries to MPs.

The petitioners have argued that the decision is illegal and goes against the principles of good governance and transparency.
