Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population has initiated discussions to regulate In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) services in the country, ensuring they are safe, of high quality, and well-organized.
A meeting held at the ministry on Friday, attended by Health Minister Nisha Mehata, reviewed the current state of IVF services in Nepal, including infrastructure, service standards, and regulations.
The discussion focused on effective regulation of IVF services, including the development of a code of conduct for IVF operations and the creation of a separate law to bring IVF services under a legal framework in the long term.
Minister Mehata emphasized the need for clear legal provisions to ensure the safety of service recipients, the quality of treatment, and ethical practices in the sensitive area of reproductive health.
She stated that the ministry is committed to preventing potential irregularities in IVF services and expanding access to safe and responsible reproductive health services.
The meeting also discussed the need to further organize the minimum standards required for service operation, compliance systems, and permit procedures.
Experts Dr. Shreepasad Adhikari, Dr. Jyoti Thapa, and Dr. Vinita Thapa participated in the discussion.
