Nepal Government Forms Taskforce to Review Public Holidays

The government has formed a four-member taskforce to review public holidays in Nepal. The taskforce, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary, was formed following a meeting of secretaries chaired by Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki.

The meeting decided to review other public holidays after the government started giving Saturdays and Sundays off from last week. The taskforce includes representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Land Management, the Ministry of Cooperatives, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, and the Ministry of Finance.

The taskforce has been asked to submit its report to the Home Ministry within 15 days. The meeting also decided to start the process of translating and drafting bills identified for this purpose in the current session.

Furthermore, the meeting decided that the concerned ministries should start the process of repealing old, irrelevant, and laws that hinder the performance of work.
