A five-member committee has been formed by the government to investigate the recent incident in Sunsari, where a person was killed in police firing.
The committee, led by Home Ministry’s Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa, has been given a deadline of one week to submit its report.
The incident occurred in Devanagunj Municipality-3, Kaptaganj, where police fired to control a clash between two groups, resulting in the death of one person.
Following the incident, a curfew has been imposed in the area by the local administration.
Home Minister Sudhan Gurung had held a meeting with security chiefs at the ministry to discuss the incident, after which the five-member committee was formed.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Gurung, Nepal Police Inspector General (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki, and Armed Police IGP Narayan Dutt Paudel, among others.
A meeting of the Central Security Committee has been called for today at 5 pm to discuss the Sunsari incident.
