The Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to vote in favour of a no-confidence motion against Karnali Chief Minister, Yamlal Kandel.

The decision was made during a meeting of the NCP’s Karnali Provincial Assembly parliamentary party on Thursday morning.

Earlier, 16 lawmakers from the NCP and the Nepali Congress had registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Kandel in the Provincial Assembly.

According to NCP parliamentary party chief whip, Krishna Bahadur Jisi, the party has officially decided to vote in favour of the no-confidence motion against Kandel, in line with their prior agreement.

‘We had already registered a no-confidence motion against him, and there is no question of changing our decision now,’ Jisi said.

It is reported that the NCP and the Nepali Congress are holding discussions on the power equation in the province.

However, the NCP’s Karnali parliamentary party has stated that they will not change their decision based on the discussions in Kathmandu.

‘If the party makes an official decision, we will follow it. But our decision in the province will not be changed just because discussions are ongoing,’ Jisi said in an online interview.

‘Discussions have also been held with Gagan Thapa. The party’s spirit is for a government with all parties,’ he added.

In Karnali, the Nepali Congress and the NCP had jointly registered a no-confidence motion against Chief Minister Kandel last Thursday.

The Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, has been proposed as the new Chief Minister of the province.
