Nepal Communist Party (NCP) leader Barshaman Pun has stated that the party was forced to make a decision on forming an alliance with the CPN-UML in the provinces as the Nepali Congress was not willing to cooperate.

Pun, who was a witness to the signing of a three-point agreement between KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on power sharing in the provinces, urged that this alliance be viewed positively.

‘We saw a situation where the provinces were unable to even prepare a budget, and a political crisis arose,’ Pun said in an online interview. ‘Our proposal was to resolve this crisis together with all three parties, but the Congress was not willing. After that, we took steps to break the deadlock.’

Pun stated that the decision to form an alliance with the UML was made with consideration for the future. ‘We made this decision looking at the future. Further discussions will be held on other matters. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’

For now, however, the focus will be on making the provincial governments effective and successful, he said. ‘Our focus will be on the development of the people and good governance. The budgets will be reviewed. We will work to strengthen federalism and build trust among the people.’
