Nepal Rastra Bank has made it mandatory for mobile wallet users to provide their national identity card details.
The central bank has directed payment service providers to verify the details of Nepali citizens through their national identity card records before opening a wallet.
Payment service providers must obtain a self-declaration from wallet users through a mobile application or other suitable medium by the end of Ashoj 2083, confirming whether they have a national identity card.
For Nepali citizens who have a national identity card, the central bank has directed payment service providers to update the national identity card number of the relevant wallet user through a mobile application or other suitable medium by the end of Ashoj 2083.
For Nepali citizens who do not have a national identity card, the central bank has directed payment service providers to inform the relevant wallet user through a mobile application or other suitable medium every month to update their customer identification.
Nepali citizens living abroad can open an electronic wallet online from abroad using their national identity card and other necessary documents.
In such cases, the wallet user must obtain the relevant permit and update their national identity card details within 35 days of returning to Nepal.
The central bank has also stated that citizens who are unable to take care of themselves, such as the disabled and the helpless, can open and operate a wallet by submitting the necessary documents, including their national identity card or national identity card number.
