Minister Yadav Inspects Nepal Pharmaceuticals, Directs Improvement

Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav inspected Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited. During the visit, she inquired about the current state of the institution, its production capacity, and the problems it faces.

Managing Director Kailash Paneru briefed Minister Yadav on the various production units of the company, which produces 25 types of essential medicines. He also informed her that the company is facing difficulties in distributing the medicines across the country due to a lack of necessary vehicles.

Managing Director Paneru mentioned that the vehicle used for transporting medicines was damaged during the Janata Jati Andolan movement, and a new one has not been arranged yet. Minister Yadav directed the Ministry’s Secretary Duvadi to arrange for the necessary vehicles immediately.

Managing Director Paneru also presented the progress report of the company, which has been incurring losses for years but has managed to make a profit of around two crore rupees this fiscal year. Minister Yadav expressed happiness over the company’s progress and emphasized the need for government industries and institutions to become self-reliant.

‘Every industry and institution should be able to manage its own expenses, from employee management to office operations,’ she said. ‘The practice of seeking budget from the Ministry should come to an end. This is our own property. If the institution makes a profit, the country’s economy will also become stronger.’

Minister Yadav suggested selling the produced medicines at a low profit if necessary, but emphasized the need to create an environment where the institution can cover its entire expenses from its own income.

She also mentioned the government’s goal of changing the country’s narrative in the next five years and urged the employees to work honestly. ‘We want to change the perception that nothing good can happen in this country in the next five years. For that, we need your support. The example of Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited, which has become profitable despite being in losses, shows that an institution can become profitable if honest employees work hard.’

During the program, Managing Director Paneru also raised the issue of a shortage of necessary manpower in the company. He mentioned that the production of essential medicines is also being affected due to the lack of employees and requested the Ministry to facilitate the necessary arrangements.

Minister Yadav assured that the Ministry is committed to coordinating and facilitating the necessary arrangements to address the problems presented. She directed the Ministry to focus on production, service expansion, and long-term strengthening of the institution.
