Jürgen Klopp has been appointed as the new coach of Germany’s national football team, signing a contract until 2030. His first match in charge will be against the Netherlands on September 24.
Klopp, who left Premier League club Liverpool two years ago, has returned to coaching with the goal of making Germany a stronger team. However, he has also issued a stern warning to the German media to respect his family’s privacy.
The 59-year-old coach, who previously led Liverpool to six titles, including the Premier League and the Champions League, has stated that he will step down if his family is subjected to any distress. Klopp’s appointment comes after former coach Julian Nagelsmann resigned following Germany’s early exit from the FIFA World Cup.
Klopp’s first match in charge will be a UEFA Nations League game against the Netherlands on September 24. He will be joined by his former assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as former German international Sven Bender, who will be part of the coaching staff.
Former German defender Per Mertesacker will also join the team as the new sporting director, replacing Andreas Rettig, starting from January.
