Jawalakhel Zoo Reopens After Bird Flu Control

The Jawalakhel Central Zoo in Lalitpur has reopened to the public after being closed for several days due to a bird flu outbreak.

The zoo was shut down on 5 Ashar, 2083, after several birds, including crows, vultures, and swans, tested positive for the Avian Influenza (bird flu) virus.

Following the treatment of infected birds, sanitation, and necessary management, the zoo has been reopened after environmental tests did not detect the presence of the virus.

According to the zoo administration, a meeting of senior officials from the Department of Livestock Services, the Central Veterinary Laboratory, and the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division decided to reopen the zoo.

The zoo will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and visitors are required to exit by 5 pm, according to zoo spokesperson and information officer Ganesh Koirla.

The zoo management has requested visitors to maintain a safe distance from the animals and birds and to follow necessary precautions.

Areas where infected birds were found have been marked with red ribbons, and visitors have been requested not to enter those areas and to maintain a safe distance.

Additionally, visitors have been requested not to eat food in open spaces, to dispose of waste properly, and to wear masks compulsorily.
