A young girl has been injured in a gas pipe explosion at a school in Nepal’s Palpa district.
The incident occurred on Thursday at the Millennium Secondary School in Silkhantol, Tansen Municipality-4.
Eight-year-old Sajuda Banu, a student at the school, was injured when a gas pipe suddenly burst into flames while she was having lunch in the school canteen.
According to the Palpa District Police Office, Sajuda suffered burns to her face, both hands, the right side of her chest, and from her waist to her feet.
Police said that about 35% of Sajuda’s body was burned in the incident.
She was immediately taken to the United Mission Hospital in Palpa for treatment and later referred to the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur for further treatment, according to DSP Bhimlal Bhattarai of the Palpa District Police Office.
Family sources said that Sajuda was later airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.
Two other students were also affected by the flames, but their condition is reported to be normal.
