Pokhara. The power dynamics in Gandaki Province are shifting, with the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) considering three options for its future in the provincial government.
Following the NCP’s decision to not support the budget in Sudur Paschim Province, the Nepali Congress decided to end its alliance with the NCP in all seven provinces. However, Gandaki Province is going against this decision.
A meeting of the NCP’s parliamentary party in Pokhara on Thursday discussed three options: continuing the current alliance, forming a government under the NCP’s leadership, or going into opposition.
Most members suggested continuing the current alliance with the Nepali Congress, citing the need for stability and the fact that the current government has been working in the public interest.
Another option discussed was forming a government under the NCP’s leadership, but this would be challenging as the party only has 22 seats in the 59-member provincial assembly.
The third option was going into opposition, with some members suggesting that the party should allow the Nepali Congress to form a government and play the role of a strong opposition.
The meeting assigned the task of preparing a report on the discussions to the parliamentary party leader, Khagaraj Adhikari.
