A four-year-old girl was found murdered in a field in Morang on Friday evening. The girl, identified as Kayanat Praveen Khatun, was reported missing by her family after she failed to return home after playing outside.
According to her father, Jafarul Miya, Kayanat’s mother had given her a snack in the afternoon, and she had gone out to play. When she did not return home by evening, the family started searching for her.
"We initially thought she might be playing with her friends in the neighborhood," Jafarul said. "But when we couldn’t find her anywhere, we started searching the surrounding areas. We were shocked to find her body in a field about 200 meters north of our house."
Investigation Underway
The police were informed, and a team led by Superintendent of Police Kavita Katwal arrived at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl had suffered severe injuries to her neck and private parts.
The police said that the girl’s body was found with her upper body naked and her lower body clothed. According to the police, the girl had left her house without wearing her upper clothes.
SP Katwal said that based on the scene and the condition of the body, there were no signs of rape. However, the police suspected that the girl might have been murdered due to a past grudge against her family.
"We are still investigating the motive behind the murder," SP Katwal said. "We will know the truth after the post-mortem report and further investigation."
The body was sent for post-mortem examination at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan on Friday night.
Family and Locals Demand Justice
The family and locals have demanded a fair investigation and justice for the victim. They have urged the police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
"We will cooperate fully with the police investigation," said local resident Mohammad Ansari. "But the culprit should be arrested and brought to justice soon."
