Former Minister Fatte Singh Tharu Passes Away

Former Minister and National Democratic Party (RPP) leader Fatte Singh Tharu has passed away at the age of 87.

Tharu, who was born in Thapuwa village (now Bajnath Municipality) in Bardiya district in 1996 BS, died of a heart attack while undergoing treatment at Western Hospital in Nepalgunj on Thursday.

According to RPP General Secretary Rishiraj Devkota, Tharu’s funeral will be held at Sidhaniya Ghat on the Rapti River on Friday.

Tharu’s Political Career

Tharu was elected as a member of the National Panchayat in 2038 and 2043 BS. In 2051 BS, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Bardiya constituency 3.

Tharu served as a minister seven times, holding portfolios such as education, communication, agriculture, defense, industry, and commerce.

He began his political career as the head of Hasnapur village panchayat in Bardiya in 2023 BS. Tharu also served as the chairman of the Bardiya District Panchayat three times.

Tharu is survived by two wives and four children.
