Nepali Congress leader and former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has proposed a five-point plan for party unity.

The proposal, made public by Deuba’s faction at a press conference in Chundevi, includes the integration of the 14th General Convention’s working committee with the special general convention’s working committee to form a unified central working committee.

According to the proposal, the party’s president, Gagan Thapa, will lead the party’s working committee with a majority, and the reconstituted central working committee will make public the 15th General Convention’s work schedule.

The proposal also suggests that the current establishment faction will have a majority in various committees related to the general convention.

Furthermore, the proposal states that all active members who were suspended by the Thapa-led committee will be allowed to participate in the 15th General Convention.

Deuba’s faction has expressed its commitment to party unity, saying it is willing to make concessions and compromises to achieve this goal.

Background

The Nepali Congress has been divided into two factions since the special general convention in December 2082, which elected a new working committee under Thapa’s leadership.

The Deuba faction and the centrist leader Shekhar Koirala faction have been at odds with the Thapa faction over issues such as membership and the party’s general convention.

The Thapa faction has been preparing for the 15th General Convention, but the Deuba and Koirala factions have been opposing this move, citing disagreements over membership and other issues.

The Deuba faction has announced that it will observe the BP Smriti Divas on August 6 and will hold a national gathering on the same day.

The establishment faction has also announced that it will observe the BP Smriti Divas on the same day.
