Crime Rate Rises in Surkhet, Nepal

Crime rates in Surkhet, Nepal have been increasing over the past three years, according to a report by the District Police Office.

The report states that there was a 1.15% increase in crime in the last fiscal year (2082/83) compared to the previous year. In total, 2,603 criminal cases were registered in the district over the past three years.

The report also highlights the increasing number of drug-related cases in the district. According to the police, 421 cases were registered in the last fiscal year, with seven minors and two female minors involved.

Suicide Rates Remain High

The report also reveals a high rate of suicide in the district. According to the police, 332 people have taken their own lives in the past three years, with 111 cases in the fiscal year 2080/81, 114 cases in 2081/82, and 107 cases in 2082/83.

Of the total number of suicide cases, 89% were by hanging. The police report also notes that the majority of suicide cases were due to criminal mentality.

Rape Cases on the Rise

The report also highlights the increasing number of rape cases in the district. According to the police, 244 rape cases were registered over the past three years, with 85 cases in the fiscal year 2080/81, 68 cases in 2081/82, and 91 cases in 2082/83.

The police report also notes that there were 19 cases of dowry-related violence and 1,382 cases of domestic violence registered over the past three years.

Cybercrime Cases Increase

The report also highlights the increasing number of cybercrime cases in the district. According to the police, 791 cases were registered in the last fiscal year, including cases of online fraud, social media hacking, and mobile phone theft.

The District Police Office has attributed the rise in crime to criminal mentality and lack of awareness of the law. The police have urged the public to be more aware of the law and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
