Kathmandu. The government has increased the salaries of civil servants to boost their morale and address the impact of inflation. The new salary scale, which came into effect with the start of the new fiscal year 2083/84, includes a significant hike in the basic pay of civil servants.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle had announced a 10% increase in the basic pay of civil servants during his budget speech on June 15. The new salary scale also includes a continuation of the existing dearness allowance, which has not been increased in the past four years.
According to the new salary scale, the minimum basic pay for civil servants will be around Rs 40,000, while the maximum pay for high-ranking officials will exceed Rs 1 million. This means that the total salary, including allowances, will range from Rs 40,000 to over Rs 1 million.
The government has also introduced a new system of performance-based incentives, under which civil servants will receive an additional 10% of their basic pay as a monthly performance bonus.
The salary hike is expected to boost the morale of civil servants and help them cope with the rising cost of living.
