Chandranagar Municipality in Sarlahi has requested the federal government to reinstate the budget of over Rs 9.4 crore that was returned due to non-implementation of the Gaun Gaurav program.
Municipality Chairman Rajkumar Mahato submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, demanding the reinstatement of the budget.
According to Mahato, the budget allocated for the Gaun Gaurav program in the fiscal year 2082/83 was returned due to non-implementation. He alleged that despite repeated directives from the municipality, the chief administrative officer and the infrastructure development chief (engineer) failed to take timely decisions and implement the program.
As a result, road construction, building, and other infrastructure development programs under the Gaun Gaurav initiative could not be implemented, and the budget was returned. Mahato claimed that the municipality lost a significant opportunity for development due to the prioritization of small projects implemented by consumer committees over larger projects implemented through contracts.
Mahato also demanded a written guarantee for the implementation of the budget in the upcoming fiscal year, as well as full cooperation from employees and people’s representatives in ensuring good governance and controlling corruption.
He warned that if the demands are not addressed in time, the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 will not be passed by the municipality, and the Nepalese government will be responsible for it. Mahato also mentioned that peaceful and legal protests will be organized if necessary.
