Bus Crash in Syria Kills 35, Injures 30

A bus crash in Syria’s eastern desert has killed at least 35 people and injured 30 others, according to Syrian media reports.

The accident occurred on Saturday when two passenger buses collided on the Damascus-Deir Ezzor highway, according to preliminary investigations.

The Ministry of Health said that at least 35 people were killed and 30 others injured in the crash, citing a health ministry official.

Details of the Crash

The Ministry of Interior said that the accident involved a bus carrying internal security forces and another public bus, but did not disclose how many of the dead and injured were security personnel.

National Television broadcast images of the crash, showing a burning bus and debris scattered along the highway, as well as pictures of the dead.

This incident comes after a bus carrying pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia overturned on a highway in southern Syria’s Daraa province earlier this month, killing five people and injuring dozens, mostly Lebanese.

Road Conditions in Syria

Provincial officials suspected that the cause of that accident was speeding.

Years of civil war and neglect have left Syria’s infrastructure in disrepair, with many roads in need of maintenance.

Last year, a bus collided with a fuel tanker in northeastern Syria, killing at least 12 people and injuring others.
