Bagmati River Water Level Drops Below Alert Threshold

The water level in the Bagmati River has dropped below the alert threshold, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Gaurighat water measurement station in Kathmandu recorded a water level of 2.41 meters this afternoon, which is below the alert threshold of 2.1 meters.

However, the department had earlier warned people living in the surrounding areas to be cautious until tomorrow morning after the water level exceeded the alert threshold.

According to the department’s flood expert, Saraswati Bishwokarma, the water level is decreasing and there is no need to worry. ‘The water level in the river has decreased to 2.2 meters, which is below the alert threshold,’ she said.

The department has warned that the river will reach the danger threshold if the water level reaches 2.7 meters.

The department has urged people living in the riverbank, flood-prone areas, and low-lying areas to avoid unnecessary travel and to move to safe locations if necessary.

The water level in the Bagmati River had been increasing due to heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of the river, but it has started to decrease now.
