Bagmati River Exceeds Caution Level, Residents Warned of Flooding

The Bagmati River in Kathmandu has exceeded its caution level, prompting the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology to warn residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.

According to the department, the water level at the Gaurighat monitoring station has reached 2.41 meters, surpassing the caution level of 2.1 meters.

With the river’s water level continuing to rise, the department has urged residents in areas prone to flooding to exercise extreme caution until Monday morning.

Vinod Parajuli, a flood expert at the department, said that if the water level reaches 2.7 meters, it will be considered a danger level.

‘The river’s water level is currently increasing. The Bagmati River at Gaurighat has exceeded the caution level. Residents in flood-prone areas along the river must remain highly vigilant until Monday morning,’ he said.

The department has also advised residents living in riverbank areas, flood-prone settlements, and low-lying areas to avoid unnecessary travel, relocate to safe areas if necessary, and follow the latest flood and landslide warnings issued by the department.
