Atlanta. Argentina’s defender Christian Romero has slammed former footballer Gary Neville’s comment on his defensive partnership with Lisandro Martinez, calling him a ‘fool’.
Neville had criticized Romero and Martinez’s partnership, calling them the ‘best but also the worst center-half partnership in the world’ ahead of Argentina’s semi-final match against England.
Despite Neville’s criticism, Romero and Martinez played a crucial role in Argentina’s 2-1 win over England, with both players receiving yellow cards during the match.
Romero expressed his dissatisfaction with Neville’s comment, saying, ‘I hope that when I retire from football, I won’t be as foolish as him.’
He also stated that he and Martinez have been performing well for the national team and are happy to have reached the World Cup final for the second time.
Martinez also responded to Neville’s criticism, saying that people are used to talking about them and that they always respond with respect on the field.
Argentina will face Spain in the World Cup final, while England will play France for third place.
