According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the number of accidents in the valley has decreased by 19 percent.
Data from the office shows that in the fiscal year 2080/81, there were 8,881 accidents, which decreased to 7,169 in 2081/82 and 5,803 in 2082/83.
Inspector and Information Officer Nareshraj Suvedi of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office attributes the reduction in accidents to the efforts of the Nepal Police, Traffic Police, and other concerned agencies.
He states that the positive impact of these efforts is due to increased awareness, effective traffic management, and responsible performance of duties.
Suvedi emphasizes that accidents are unfortunate, but following traffic rules is essential for one’s own safety.
He adds that if all road users understand this, the results will be positive.
Therefore, he stresses that all citizens must be responsible for following traffic rules.
According to Suvedi, an analysis of accident data throughout the year shows that most accidents occur on Fridays, with 1,103 accidents.
On the other hand, the fewest accidents occur on Wednesdays, with 645 accidents.
The Traffic Police emphasizes that both drivers and pedestrians must fully comply with traffic rules to improve road safety.
