78% of Nepali Children Live with Both Parents

Nearly 78% of children in Nepal live with both parents, according to a recent report. The National Child Rights Council says there are 9.6 million children in the country, with 5.05 million boys and 4.78 million girls.

The Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Welfare has released ‘Children in Figures 2083’, which includes data on the living arrangements of children. The report shows that 78% of boys and 77.7% of girls live with both parents.

Meanwhile, 17.1% of both boys and girls live with their mothers only, while 1.1% of boys and 1% of girls live with their fathers only. Only 0.1% of children live with their fathers and stepmothers.

Some children live with other relatives, with 2.7% of boys and 3.2% of girls in this situation. A small percentage of children, 0.6% of boys and 0.4% of girls, live with people other than their parents or relatives.
