22 Rhinos Die in a Year in Nepal’s Chitwan National Park

Twenty-two rhinos have died in the past year in Nepal’s Chitwan National Park and its buffer zone.

According to the park’s information officer, Avinash Thapa Magar, two rhinos died due to electrocution, while the rest died of natural causes.

Two rhinos were electrocuted in Madi and Nawalparasi, while others died due to various reasons such as getting stuck in the mud, fighting, and being attacked by tigers.

In the previous fiscal year, 30 rhinos died of natural causes, with two of them dying in the buffer zone.

According to the 2021 census, there were 694 adult rhinos in Chitwan National Park.
