A third ship carrying 30,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer has arrived at the port of Kolkata in India.
The shipment is part of an effort to ensure timely availability of chemical fertilizers to Nepali farmers.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment, the ongoing monsoon season has affected the transportation of goods via rail from India.
As a result, a rail shipment of 12,500 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer scheduled to arrive in Nepal on Tuesday has been delayed and is now expected to arrive on Wednesday.
Another rail shipment carrying 2,500 metric tonnes of DAP fertilizer is also expected to arrive in Nepal on Wednesday.
Truck Transport of Fertilizers
In an effort to expedite the supply of urea fertilizers, 300 metric tonnes of urea have been loaded onto trucks in Kolkata and are en route to Biratnagar, while another 450 metric tonnes are headed to Bhairahawa.
The ministry has stated that the remaining chemical fertilizers will be transported to Nepal in a phased manner and distributed across the country as needed.
The ministry has assured that it is working to ensure a continuous supply and distribution of chemical fertilizers to farmers.
