A police body cam video has been released showing Sunny Hostin’s son, Gabriel Hostin, being cited for trespassing. In the footage, Sunny Hostin can be seen arguing with the police officers on her son’s behalf.
According to the video, Gabriel Hostin explained to the officers that he was on a run along the railroad tracks when he saw a hill and decided to head up it. Sunny Hostin then intervened, telling the officers that her son had just graduated from Harvard and was an upstanding citizen who teaches 4th-grade geometry. She also mentioned her own background as a former federal prosecutor.
Sunny Hostin explained that they had recently moved to the area and her son was still getting familiar with the surroundings, which led to the mistake of entering private property. The police also released a photo of the gate that Gabriel claimed was open when he was out for his run, as well as a ‘no trespassing’ sign that he said he did not see.
The incident occurred last month when Gabriel Hostin was out for a jog and noticed a gravel incline that he thought could be used for hill training. However, the police stated that he was trespassing on active railroad tracks in New York City.
Sunny Hostin, who is a host on ‘The View’, is representing her son in the case. She has written a letter to the District Attorney, asking them to drop the charges against her son. She claimed that there was no visible ‘no trespassing’ sign at the entrance to the incline and that her son made an ‘honest mistake’ by assuming it was an open area. Gabriel Hostin’s court appearance is scheduled for July 31.
