Police in Siraha district have seized a large quantity of cannabis, weighing 652kg, hidden inside crates of guavas in a pickup truck.
The seizure was made during a special operation based on a tip-off, according to the District Police Office, Siraha.
The police found 46 crates of guavas containing the cannabis-like substance in a parked pickup truck with license plate number Ba 21 Ch 5666.
The total weight of the seized substance, including plastic wrapping, was 663kg, and 652kg after the plastic was removed.
Arrests Made
Three people have been arrested in connection with the seizure, including 38-year-old Shyam Kumari Sah of Lahan Municipality-3, 40-year-old Gaurav Mahato of Lahan-3, and his 19-year-old son Shivam Sah.
According to DSP Ramesh Bahadur Palak, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Siraha, the operation was carried out based on a special tip-off, and a large quantity of contraband was seized.
An investigation is underway into the source and destination of the cannabis, as well as the involvement of other individuals.
The police have taken control of the pickup truck, the cannabis-like substance, and other materials, and have initiated legal proceedings.
