Nepal’s Communist Party Chief KP Sharma Oli Criticizes New and Old Party Labels

Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed his objection to the ongoing debate over new and old political parties. Speaking at a program in Kathmandu, Oli stated that the discussion on new and old parties is creating unnecessary conflict.

‘The narrative of new and old parties is incorrect,’ he said. ‘In the past, there were attempts to divide people in the name of religion. Now, there is an attempt to create a division between new and old parties. This could lead to divisions within households, between parents and children.’

Oli questioned the relevance of labeling parties as new or old, citing the example of the United States. ‘What parties are there in America? Are they not the Democratic and Republican parties?’ he asked. ‘Parties do not become old. They are subject to change. Parties are changing, and they will continue to do so. Nepal’s parties have been recognized and will continue to be recognized.’
