A man who had been on the run for nearly 18 years after allegedly murdering a woman over a dowry dispute has been arrested by police in Nepal.
Ram Nath Ray, 60, was taken into custody on Friday from his home in Bariyar Patti village in Siraha district, according to police.
Ray is accused of attacking and killing Chandrika Devi Ray, 25, with a sharp weapon on Bhadra 3, 2065 B.S. (August 19, 2008) at around 9 am.
Chandrika’s husband, Baudha Ray, and two others were also involved in the attack, police said. Chandrika died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Patna, India.
Police had been searching for Ray since the incident, and he was finally arrested from his village, said Ram Bahadur Pal, a police spokesperson in Siraha.
Further investigation is underway, Pal added.
