A human rights group in Nepal has called for a judicial investigation into a deadly shooting incident in the Sunsari district that left one person dead and nearly two dozen injured.
The incident occurred on the night of Ashar 10, 2083, in the Devanagarj municipality, Kapilvastu, following a dispute between two communities.
The Human Rights and Peace Society of Nepal expressed concern over the incident and accused security personnel of firing indiscriminately, leading to the death and injuries.
Call for Independent Investigation
The group’s president, Renuka Paudel, issued a statement on Sunday condemning the incident and calling for an independent and impartial investigation.
The society reminded the government of its primary responsibility to protect citizens’ lives and demanded that those responsible for the incident be brought to justice.
The group also called for the provision of medical treatment and relief to the injured and compensation to the victims’ families.
Appeal for Peace and Harmony
The Human Rights and Peace Society of Nepal appealed to all parties to work towards maintaining peaceful relations between communities and to avoid the use of force to resolve disputes.
The group emphasized the importance of dialogue, consensus, and cooperation in resolving conflicts and promoting social harmony.
The society also urged political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and individuals to contribute to promoting social cohesion, tolerance, and brotherhood.
