NBC Fires Security Guard After ‘TODAY’ Show Intruder Confronts Craig Melvin

A security guard at NBC has been fired after a man breached security at the ‘TODAY’ show and confronted presenter Craig Melvin.

The incident occurred when the suspect, Andrew Truelove, entered the restricted area of Studio 1A. According to reports, two guards were posted at the entrance, but one briefly stepped away and the other failed to notice the man entering.

Truelove had asked staffers where he could find Al Roker before allegedly lunging at Craig Melvin and yelling a racial slur. He was quickly detained until the police arrived.

Despite the alarming encounter, no one was hurt, and Melvin and Roker were back on the air about 15 minutes later. The incident prompted a heavy police presence outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza as investigators looked into how the suspect managed to get so deep inside the building.

Truelove has been charged with hate crime burglary, hate crime menacing, hate crime criminal trespass, and harassment.
