Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has paid a heartfelt tribute to late civic leader Dr. Devendra Raj Pandey, expressing deep condolences to his bereaved family.
In a statement issued on social media, Thapa said that with Dr. Pandey’s demise, the nation has lost a prominent intellectual, a moral leader, and a vigilant guardian of democracy.
Thapa praised Dr. Pandey for his fearless stance in favor of civic freedom, equality, human rights, and democratic awareness throughout his life. He also acknowledged Dr. Pandey’s significant role in coordinating the civic movement during Nepal’s decisive democratic struggles and his continuous inspiration to the new generation.
As a finance secretary, finance minister, development thinker, and architect of good governance, Dr. Pandey had provided a new perspective to Nepal’s economy, public administration, and development discourse, Thapa said.
Thapa expressed his belief that the honesty, transparency, and moral courage demonstrated by Dr. Pandey in public life would remain an invaluable legacy for future generations.
Dr. Pandey’s role in promoting social harmony, equality, and national unity is particularly memorable, Thapa said, adding that the flame of civic awareness ignited by him and the intellectual wealth he left behind would continue to guide us forever.
Dr. Pandey passed away on Friday evening at the age of 87 at his residence in Vishal Nagar, Kathmandu. He was brought back to his residence from Patan Hospital on the same day.
