According to data from the District Traffic Police Office in Chitwan, the month of Shrawan sees the most road accidents in the district.
During the last fiscal year 2082/83, a total of 70 road accidents occurred in Shrawan, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuring 121 others.
Although Shrawan sees the most road accidents, the highest number of fatalities occurred in Falgun with 14 deaths, followed by Chaitra with 13 deaths, and Kartik with 12 deaths.
After Shrawan, the months of Ashoj and Mangsir saw 67 and 64 road accidents, respectively, while Poush saw 53 accidents.
The high number of road accidents in Shrawan is attributed to the monsoon season, which causes roads to be slippery, leading to vehicles skidding and brakes failing.
Most road accidents in the district occur in the evening, with 214 accidents taking place between 6 pm and 12 am during the last fiscal year.
Between 12 pm and 6 pm, 156 accidents occurred, while 124 accidents took place between 6 am and 12 pm.
Only 51 accidents occurred between 12 am and 6 am.
According to Anil Thapa, chief of the District Traffic Police Office in Chitwan, the high number of accidents in the evening is due to the increased number of vehicles on the road, as well as poor visibility caused by inadequate lighting on vehicles and roads.
