Moneylender Assaults Family in Sarlahi

A moneylender and his family members have assaulted a family in Sarlahi over a loan dispute. According to Lakshmi Ghimire, a central member of the Moneylender Victims’ Struggle Committee, the moneylender, Indal Sahani, and his family members attacked the family of Mitra Bajya Raut in Basbariya Rural Municipality-2 on Tuesday.

Raut had borrowed Rs 800,000 from Sahani and had mortgaged his 26 kattha land as collateral. Although Raut had verbally agreed to return the land after repaying the loan with interest, Sahani has been demanding more money and has already taken around Rs 10-11 lakh.

After Raut’s death, his family had been requesting Sahani to return the land, but he refused. Sahani’s son, Vilas, had even sold the land to someone else. Sahani had been demanding more money from Raut’s family, despite them having already repaid the loan amount.

The victim, Sahani, had participated in a foot march against moneylenders in the past. He had even met with Home Minister Sudhan Kiranti in Nijgadh to discuss his case. Sahani and his family members, including his sons Vishal, Lakshman, Jagdish, Ram Pravesh Shah, and his wife, were involved in the assault.

The victims, including Sahani’s son Umesh, Muna, and his wife Bhagwati Kumari, are currently undergoing treatment at the Barhathawa Hospital. Sarlahi Police Spokesperson Police Naib Sub-Inspector Bed Prasad Gautam confirmed that the police had received information about the incident.
