Lumbini Province government has restructured its administrative setup, aiming to make it more efficient and cost-effective. A meeting of the provincial council of ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Chetanarayan Acharya on Wednesday, approved the Lumbini Province Government (Work Division) Rules, 2083, which reduces the number of ministries from 12 to eight.
According to the new structure, the ministries will be merged and reorganized. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been dissolved and its responsibilities transferred to the Ministry of Social Development. The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, and Transportation has been abolished, with its responsibilities divided between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Law, Industry, and Transportation.
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has been merged with the Ministry of Urban Development. The Ministry of Forests and Environment has been renamed the Ministry of Forests, Environment, and Tourism, with the addition of tourism responsibilities.
The eight ministries that will remain are the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs, Law, Industry, and Transportation, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management, and Cooperatives, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, Ministry of Forests, Environment, and Tourism, Ministry of Urban Development, Energy, Irrigation, and Drinking Water, Ministry of Social Development, and Ministry of Health.
The council of ministers also made decisions on the permanent appointment and posting of two senior officials of the Provincial Agricultural Service. Ram Prasad Pande has been appointed and posted as the Director-General of the Agricultural Development Directorate, Rupandehi, and Bhaskar Paudel has been appointed and posted as the Director-General of the Animal, Fish, and Poultry Development Directorate, Rupandehi.
