Low Capital Spending in Sudurpashchim Province

The Sudurpashchim Province government has spent only 62.26% of its allocated budget for the fiscal year 2082/83.

According to the Province Controller’s Office, the government spent Rs 20.81 billion out of a total budget of Rs 33.43 billion.

While the recurrent expenditure was satisfactory, the capital expenditure, which is directly related to development and infrastructure projects, was limited to less than 60%.

Ministry-wise Expenditure

The Ministry of Social Development spent 76.35% of its recurrent expenditure and 63.61% of its capital expenditure, making it the highest spender.

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment spent 68.89% of its recurrent expenditure and 73.67% of its capital expenditure.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development spent 65.10% of its recurrent expenditure and 59.84% of its capital expenditure.

Other ministries, such as the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture, and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, also had low capital expenditure.

Reasons for Low Expenditure

According to Controller Vasudev Joshi, the low capital expenditure is due to the slow implementation of development projects and the lack of progress in infrastructure development.

Joshi stated that the trend of low capital expenditure is not new and has been a recurring issue every year.

He expressed hope that with proper planning, budget allocation, and implementation, the province’s capital expenditure can be improved.
