A liquid oxygen plant has been put into operation at Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital in Khajura Bazaar, Banke.
The hospital’s executive director, Dr. Niraj Bhattarai, said the plant, which has a capacity of 20 kiloliters, was inaugurated on Friday and is now operational with 18 kiloliters of liquid oxygen.
Dr. Bhattarai said the hospital no longer needs to transport oxygen cylinders daily, as it can now store oxygen in the plant.
He added that the hospital has also started a separate pharmacy in the chemotherapy ward and is providing radiology and laboratory diagnosis services from the same building.
Background
The liquid oxygen plant was installed with the coordination of the Ministry of Health and the financial support of USAID.
The hospital was built with public donations and was handed over to the federal government in 2072 BS.
Although the federal government has taken full ownership of the hospital, it has not yet approved the hospital’s staffing, and the hospital is being run by temporary, contract, and daily-wage health workers.
The hospital provides services to cancer patients from Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The hospital is located about 10 kilometers west of Nepalgunj Bazaar.
