Claude Lemieux’s family had expressed concerns about his sobriety in the months leading up to his death, with a confrontation taking place just hours before he took his own life.
According to an incident report, Lemieux’s son Brendan explained that the family had noticed a change in his father’s behavior over the past year and were worried that he might have relapsed after 12 years of sobriety.
On May 27, Lemieux’s wife Deborah confronted him about her concerns, and he acknowledged them. She then asked him to leave their home at 10:30 PM. Deborah subsequently called Brendan, who went to their residence to discuss how they could support Lemieux.
Later that evening, Brendan checked Lemieux’s location on his phone and found him at the family business. He drove over and located his father’s Ford truck in the parking lot. Knowing that Lemieux kept a firearm in the glovebox, Brendan removed the weapon and secured it in his own vehicle due to the emotional situation.
Upon entering the warehouse, Brendan found his father and called 911 at 3:24 AM. Lemieux was pronounced dead minutes later. A cell phone was found near his body with a message written on it, and a bag of THC edibles was also discovered at the scene.
According to officials, a toxicology report listed ‘negative’ for all analytes. Lemieux died by suicide at the age of 60 and is survived by his wife Deborah and their four children.
