The Premier League has referred City to an independent commission for alleged breaches of rules between 2009 and 2018. It is also alleged that the City has not cooperated since the investigation began in December 2018.
The City said the allegations were surprising and were supported by a body of irrefutable evidence. Now the commission can impose penalties ranging from fines and point deductions to expulsion from the Premier League.
“Manchester City is appalled by the publication of these alleged breaches of Premier League rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and extensive content provided to the EPL.” The club said in a statement.
‘The club welcomes a review of the matter by an independent commission, asking it to impartially consider the extensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. After the Abu Dhabi United Group took ownership of City in 2008, City won the Premier League for the sixth time.
